Managing Tenants

Add tenants, assign them to units, and manage tenant relationships

Overview

Tenants are the people who rent your units. TenantSee makes it easy to add tenants by email, assign them to units, and track their payments, maintenance requests, and documents all in one place.

Adding a Tenant

  1. Navigate to Tenants in the sidebar
  2. Click the + button
  3. Enter the tenant's email address

TenantSee checks if an account already exists for that email:

  • Existing user found — Their profile information is shown and they'll be linked to your company
  • New user — You'll be asked to enter their full name and phone number to create their account
  1. Optionally assign the tenant to a unit right away
  2. Click Save

When you add a tenant, TenantSee automatically sends them a welcome email with instructions to set up their account. If you assign them to a unit, they also receive a unit assignment notification.

Tenant Detail Page

Click on any tenant to view their detail page, which shows:

  • Tenant Details — Name, email, phone number, tenant-since date, and email verification status
  • Units — All units the tenant is assigned to, with building info and their role
  • Statistics — Summary metrics for the tenant
  • Recent Payments — Latest payment history
  • Maintenance Activity — Recent maintenance requests submitted by this tenant

Unit Assignment

When assigning a tenant to a unit, you can provide additional lease details:

  • Lease start and end dates
  • Move-in and move-out dates
  • Deposit amount
  • Monthly rent (can override the unit's default rent)
  • Lease term in months
  • Emergency contact name and phone number
  • Tenant role within the unit

Editing Lease Details

After a tenant has been assigned to a unit, you can update their lease information at any time:

  1. Navigate to the Unit detail page
  2. Open the Tenants tab
  3. Find the tenant card and click Edit Lease
  4. Update any lease fields — dates, rent, deposit, emergency contact, etc.
  5. Click Save

This is useful when renewing a lease, adjusting rent, or updating contact information.

Deleting a Tenant

Deleting a tenant removes all of their unit assignments. This action requires confirmation. The tenant's user account remains intact — only the relationship with your company is removed.
